Life As Of Late #5

I wasn't too sure how to approach more regular blogging, however I feel that the best way to continue to produce blog posts is by describing what I have been doing lately! This blog post details from the June Bank Holiday Weekend until the present week. So here's some photographs and information about what antics I've been up to! 

Catching up with the girls 

The Bank Holiday weekends are a great time to catch up with friends and family. I generally always head on a night out during a bank holiday weekend; there's  a good crowd and if you're in your hometown, you're guaranteed to bump into friends you haven't seen in an age. 

I was lucky enough to hang out with two of my best friends from my secondary school days on one of the nights out. I find that as I'm in college in Limerick, it can be difficult to meet up and maintain contact with my friends from secondary school as the majority are in college in Dublin. This meant it was brilliant to see Caítlín and Maeve and have a good catch up, gossip and session. It was a great night, even the rain didn't dampen our spirits! 

What I'm Reading:

I always try to read a few pages every night before going asleep so my latest book choice is 'Night School' by Lee Child. The book is based around the fictional character of Jack Reacher (A character I wish was real!) and a case he is dealing with as part of the Military Police in the 90's. It's set during his time in the Army so it's a blast from the past sort of book, as other books by Lee Child are set after Reacher left the Army. I've read the majority of the Reacher books and I have enjoyed every single one of them so I hope this lives up to my high expectations! 

 What I'm Listening To: 

Like everyone else, I'm always looking for new material to listen to. I've been a fan of The Coronas and The Strypes for many years so I was only thrilled to hear that The Coronas were releasing a new album called 'Trust the Wire' and The Strypes are soon releasing an album called, 'Spitting Image.' I've been listening to new album from The Coronas and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I'm now waiting for the new album from The Strypes, although they've posted a couple of songs online in anticipation of the new album!

Visited Wells House for Afternoon Tea: 

My Mam and I visited Wells House, which is an old house near Ballyedmond in Wexford. We went for a tour of the House with some of my aunts and cousins. The guide for the tour was excellent and provided a lot of details about the history of the house and the ownership of the house throughout the centuries. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos inside the house but we all had an excellent time. 

We went for Afternoon Tea after the tea which was inside the house, we had delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes with lashings of tea and coffee, all of which was wonderfully tasty and fresh. My poor cousin was mortified ringing the bell for more coffee and tea for us all! Overall, it is a wonderful day, I'd like to go again soon to explore the gardens and other facilities at Wells House. 

Lunch at 'The Duck' at Marlfield House: 

To celebrate my parents' 26th wedding anniversary this week, the four of us went for an anniversary lunch on Sunday at The Duck restaurant. The Duck is located beside Marlfield House on the Courtown Road in Gorey Co. Wexford. The menu had a wonderful selection of starters, main courses and desserts. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. As the weather was sunny, we decided to get coffee and sit outside on the terrace adjacent to the restaurant to relax. You might have seen my Instagram from the terrace in the sunshine! Overall, it was a lovely afternoon of relaxation and good food.

'Singing I am your worst, I am your worst nightmare''

Hey Everyone!

It has been a long time to say the least since I have written here. As you may expect, the preparation for the Mocks and ultimately the Leaving Cert does leave me with little time. Time is a luxury few Leaving Cert students can afford. I should probably inform you all about the wondrous and soul-soothing things I've been up to as of late!

As a Sixth Year with Mocks starting on Monday (English Paper Two, along with Irish Paper One) time is truly of the essence so any time I get to relax, I truly savour it. I try to stop studying at around 9.30 on school nights (I need copious amounts of sleep just to function) so I do 3-4 hours of homework and study each school night. Weekends are easily 4 hours a day and then the evenings to relax.

Last Saturday I treated myself to the Divergent DVD and sadly, instead of blogging, watched it instead! I had watched the film when it was in the cinemas but really wanted to watch it again. It's such a rarity to actually sit down for two hours to watch a film and not be plagued by thoughts of the Mocks or Leaving Cert. The exams and hours of study consume your entire life for a school year. It really isn't pleasant but I'm optimistic all these hours of study will be worth it all in the end. (It's the only thing you can hope for, isn't it?)

School has been as can be expected. Talk of Mocks, Debs, Leaving Cert, CAO, all hang over every conversation at The Bench. It genuinely causes you to sit back slightly and think,
 'This is real. This is happening. It's not just my mind thinking that this is happening, it is actually happening.' It is both a source of anxiety and a mixture of reluctant excitement with shock.

We watched for years as Sixth Year groups came and went from the school, leaving us remaining, now it's our turn to leave. Soon we won't even be secondary school students, we'll be finished and moving onto ambitious and life-changing places. It does lead to your breath hitching in your throat occasionally when you think about it.

I'm studying for the Mocks, but I don't want to work so hard that I burn out before the Leaving Cert, if that makes sense. We're told to do well, BUT, not too well. Yet good grades are expected. But if you get an A you'll be marked down. I am planning to aim for a grade below what I'm planning on getting in the real LC. I  think that's reasonable and leaves a sturdy foundation to work on for June.

What A Treacherous Thing To Believe That A Person Is More Than A Person..

Hey Everyone!

Sorry for not posting last week. In a nutshell, I had a tonne of homework/study and honestly didn't have a minute to myself to write a blog post. It really did irritate me that I couldn't post anything, but the reality is that my schoolwork has to take priority over everything for the next couple of years so I can achieve what I want with my life.

My life has been quite quiet lately which may make my blog posts seem 'dull' but everything is still going by as quickly as other weeks. It feels as though I haven't been on my blog in weeks and I'm not sure how I like that. I was considering a brief break/hiatus while I figured out what I was writing on my blog, however I don't think it's quite necessary any more.

The title of this blog post is a quote from one of my favourite authors, John Green. If you didn't know, I have a John Green book shrine and several of his quotes plastered all over my bedroom walls. I really relate to many of his quotes, and in particular this quote. It is a dangerous thing to believe that a person is more than a person. You're liable to get hurt and to excuse their actions much more than if they were simply a ''person''

But on a more positive note, I'll tell you about my week (and maybe an extract of a draft blog post I'd been planning) I'm not sure if I said it already, but I'd like to say a huge thank you for helping me reach 12,000 page views on my blog recently, every thousand is a huge milestone and I appreciate it immensely.

So my last two weeks have been filled with school work, procrastinating, studying, flinging maths books across my room (possible slight exaggeration but it's how I felt) & learning how to write an essay about the environment in Irish. I've been learning my seanfhocal (Irish sayings) so thoroughly that I've begun to start using them in actual conversation, much to the confusion of my family and friends.

I also received a letter from the Gaeltacht I'm going to in the summer (more details later) about a meeting I've to attend in early February (it's compulsory when it's your first time to the Gaeltacht) and I have to learn Amhran na bhFiann (which I know most of already from primary school wahey) so I'll be singing the national anthem for the next few weeks, which may be awkward.

So while I'm on the topic of the Gaeltacht, I suppose I should explain what it is and why I'm going there. The Gaeltacht(s) are multiple areas all over Ireland where only Irish is spoken. In the summer, you can stay on courses in Gaeltacht areas (mainly in Galway) for up to three weeks and speak the language and improve your vocabulary. I'm going in early June of this year for three weeks. So yes, there are vacancies for guest posts during that time too. (I'll be mentioning further details of this closer to the time) I'm hoping staying in the Gaeltacht will improve my Irish. I'm studying Honours Irish in my Leaving Cert and I need a good grade if I want to become a primary school teacher. So I'm determined to make the most of the three weeks I'll be over there!

 

This honestly terrified me, well, because I'm seventeen and planning for someday.

Touchdown To Reality, It's Not Exactly What You Had In Mind...

Sorry for not posting my usual weekly update last week. I genuinely don’t have any excuses for my absence. I had the entire week off from school, yes, I did have lots of homework and study, however, I had most of it finished by the weekend.

So this week is about the past two weeks, an unusual occurrence. This week I didn’t feel that well. My physical health was the usual. I just feel very run down and tired lately. I can’t quite put my finger on what was wrong with me this week, but there was something.  I felt like writing a lot this week also, however, due to time constraints of homework and study I couldn’t. It really annoyed me as I thought I needed to express something, which I felt, but on the other hand, wondered if the something was a figment of dwindling imagination in an over tired and stressed brain and mind.

My Halloween went well, I had a really good night. I casually dressed in a cow onesie, mainly because it was so snug and warm. During Mid Term break week I also went to the cinema with my friend Tara. We went to the school to get books for study and then walked to the cinema. We went to see ‘’Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2’’ which was actually brilliant and released my inner child. While we were leaving the cinema, we spotted a Catching Fire poster and posed beside them!

The photograph was also before I got my hair cut, so it’s a good bit longer than it is now. Around 2/3 inches of my hair was cut off, which is a lot for me, seeing as my hair length is always hovering around or past my shoulders.

Monday, I went back to school. Which is always fun when you had been awake since 3 am that morning and only got four hours sleep.  I was outside the room of my next class and was talking to a friend of mine walking past and I was whinging that I only got 4 hours sleep and had been up since 3 am. Little did I know, an old teacher of mine (who had taught me for four years) was behind my friend and he said asked me why I only got 4 hours sleep and what was I doing up at 3am? Awkward does not describe it!

Thankfully I got more sleep during the week, however right now it’s around 8pm on Saturday and I want to go asleep. I’m just so incredibly tired! On the bright side, I finished most of my homework earlier so I can go asleep with a clear conscience. 

You might also be wondering what is the meaning behind the title of this blog post! I was originally planning on calling it ''What's A Parabola?'' because in maths we were learning about parabola's (a quadratic equation on a graph if you're wondering) but the teacher didn't have quite enough time to explain the term. So I left the class saying ''What's a parabola?'' The word seemed just too funny to me. I chose this lyric because the song is really describing what's on my mind lately.

School, Othello, My 17th & Fangirling Over Benedict Cumberbatch

Hey Everyone!

So yet another week has come and passed and September is nearly at it's end. It's absolutely surreal how quickly 2013 is going by. I've officially been a 5th Year for just over a month, which is quite scary when I think of it. So now to tell all you lovely people about my somewhat crazy and erratic week!

  Nothing really eventful happened for the first part of the week, just the usual school things (homework., study, sleeping and reading too many books! One can never read too many books though) I did have a free double class on Wednesday and we were allowed go on the computers *gasps* You can obviously guess what websites I went on.. Twitter, Tumblr, Blogger and checked up on emails.

I have some advice for you all, NEVER EVER go on Tumblr on a school computer. It's actually dangerous, one second it could be a GIF of a cat, the next a scary terrifying image of danisnotonfire reading phanfiction with Phil (Yes, that actually popped up on my dash) The lads sitting beside me were literally terrified. I had earlier tweeted about going on Tumblr and the dangers of it, and they asked me what Tumblr was. . .

You lucky people, you don't know what Tumblr is. I did a horrendous job of explaining my life Tumblr and made the website out to be full of crazy fangirls who reblog gifs of their fandoms, ships and OTP's. Which I suppose is true, that's the area of Tumblr I navigate most of the time. However Tumblr is a good website, you're able to connect with people with familiar interests from all over the world and reblog gifs of your favourite people. (I just edited my Tumblr theme so I won't shut up about Tumblr at the moment sorry)

Thursday was good too for a number of reasons. You can probably guess, Thursday September 26th was my 17th birthday! So therefore I can drive a car yay, joking I'll keep reading books instead. That night with my English class and some other classes we went to the local cinema to see a live stream of a production of Othello. (Play written by Shakespeare) Overall I found it to be very good, the acting was good however some scene were dragged out for too long. The production and interval included lasted well over 3 hours so it finished at around 10.15pm on a school night yay.

Before the production started, there was a  presenter talking about other productions the theatre hosts, she listed various actors and actresses including Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston! I nearly squealed when I heard Benedict Cumberbatch because he is absolutely amazing (I am a Cumbercookie yes, if you're one too, let me know in the comments!)

As you can imagine the next morning was absolutely horrendous, I barely got six hours sleep. I walked into school and my friend Tara told me that I looked exhausted! Which was true, I had such dark circles underneath my eyes you could have seen them from the other side of the school! I'd also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who very kindly gave me a thoughtful card or gift. I really appreciate it and I love you all, also to everyone who emailed me, chatted to me on Facebook and tweeted me, THANK YOU. I had a great day and weekend, thank you x

Also, you may have noticed I haven't posted any videos on my YouTube in a while, that's mainly because of the lack of time in my life right now. Videos, even basic ones like mine, take a long time to record, edit and publish onto YouTube. I had been hoping to have posted one by the end of September but obviously that's not going to happen. I've actually been thinking of more ideas since going back to school which I hope to film once I have more time on my hands.

In the meantime, check my Twitter for updates on what I'm up to, (mainly tweets about homework, rants and fandoms, if you're into that sorta thing) Also, book update! I just finished The Mortal Instruments, City of Bones by Cassandra Clare (recommended by my friend Tara) and it was just excellent. I loved Cassandra Clare's writing style, the plot and character development were very good too, an excellent debut novel. I started City of Ashes, the second book in the series, Tara gave me the book as a gift for my birthday so THANK YOU.

I also went out on Saturday night with some friends, Tara, Mary, Grace from Dainty Sprinkles and Vivien to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. We all arrived at 7.30pm, we left at nearly 10.30, we all had a great time.

Alone, not lonely.

Hey Everyone!

So it's the end of another tiring week. I knew Fifth Year would be exhausting, but not this much. One thing I don't like about Fifth Year is that you do lots of work and time consuming activities but I can't really write about any of them as they're deemed (by me) to be too boring and lack luster. Oh well, I can live like a hermit for a couple of years, it won't kill me.

I had a few tests during the week and I was happy with my results. I had a free double German and study afterwards so I let my mind wander and wrote a poem (Not depressing or sinister I swear, it's quite optimistic believe it or not!)

Something else of interest to me was the fact that people in my year in school read/know of my blog?! I know I post links to my Twitter & Tumblr, however I didn't think people would actually read my random musings? This has made me feel slightly more cautious and conservative about what I express here (I wasn't really outspoken here to begin with) as for some reason I feel more comfortable sharing my views/life with random strangers than with my peers in education? It's a strange thing really, I feel more comfortable sharing everything with ''strangers'' however I don't feel all you lovely readers are strangers though! You are all a part of my life now, and support me by commenting, emailing and tweeting me. Even by reading this, I feel I nearly know you.

I know some people consider people who read their blogs ''their fan base'' however I consider you all my friends and people I would like to know properly some day in the future. It's easier to tell someone who won't judge you what's going on in your life rather than telling someone who knows you and may judge you for every single world you utter. I was talking to a real life friend of mine about making more YouTube videos because of being offered the partnership and everything, so hopefully in the weeks to come I will record a new video. Wahey.

So that's about it from me for this week. Next week should be more interesting as I'm going to see Othello with my English class on Thursday, September 26th, along with other things going on that day. Should I mention that this might be my last blog post as a sixteen year old?! DUN DUN DUNNNNN. Dramatic ending. Yes, it's my birthday on Thursday and I'll be seventeen! Wow, that was a quick year wasn't it? I think my blog is nearing it's six month old birthday then too! *Counting when I first starting properly blogging on a weekly basis, not my mediocre attempts!*

Something I'd Like To Clarify With Everyone..

Hey Everyone!

So I'm writing this ''bonus''  blog post to address something which has arisen in my life both on the internet and in my 'real life'. As you can probably guess, it's about this blog, The Life Of Me.

As I've previously written/typed, people I know in real life and on various social networking sites have started to find out that I, Aveen, have a blog. There's no problem with this, it's just that I'm a little shocked that people in REAL LIFE, who know me, are reading and possibly judging what I say here.
This is kind of my little corner of the internet where I express what has been happening in my life, both the previous week and in the past. (I've a post coming up soon about something I did when I was 7, it's hilarious) However, back onto what I saying earlier.

Blogging is not vanity. People believe that because I write about my life, I'm vain, self obsessed and shallow. This is not the case! I write about my life because I enjoy writing! Blogging is a way to get to know other people with similar interests and a method to improve spelling, grammar and punctuation. I don't blog to try brag and impress people with what I'm doing with my life. I blog because I enjoy it, also because I'd like to be a writer someday.

Think of it this way, blogging is my hobby. Most people play sports like football and hurling for their hobbies. (I play badminton too for mine) I'd like to ask the question, would you openly insult people for playing on a soccer or hurling team? I certainly hope you wouldn't, so why would you insult someone for having a hobby online? People who play on teams often win trophies/shields for winning competitions, however if a blogger wins or is nominated for something, they're considered to be sad, shallow, vain and to have ''no life''? Where are we all getting this assumption? Blogging and playing a sport are quite similar in ways, they're both a hobby and a way to know more people with a similar interest.

I don't see why there is such a negative stigma towards blogging, according to comments on a Daily Mail article (link is here ) Blogging supposedly takes up time away from school, well listen clearly. Blogging does take up time, especially if you're dedicated, but, so do sports and training sessions for them! In fact, they take up more time, teams may be training a couple of nights a week, blogging for me and a few others takes up a couple of hours on a Saturday and whatnot.

Also, what is so ''funny'' about blogging and being a YouTuber? People I spoke to would try stop themselves from laughing when they found out. I'm going to be honest, YouTube offered to make me a partner in YouTube recently, however, I didn't accept it. Why? Well first of all school work, and the backlash I would receive in school for being a partner in YouTube. The comments and snickering are immature and silly, and I've only uploaded three videos. Can you imagine what would occur if I was getting PAID to make the videos?

It's a vicious circle and it has to end. Being honest, at first I was a little taken aback at the backlash I was receiving from people, but it's not going to stop me from blogging and YouTube. I won't be posting on YouTube for a while, due to school work but in holidays expect something from me. People may think it's ''funny'' that a girl from their school is blogging, but it's my hobby and something I thoroughly love and I'm passionate about. You have your GAA and soccer, I have my blogging. I don't insult you for doing what you love, what gives you the right to do the same to me and fellow bloggers? Nothing.

This is something I felt I needed to address,

J.O.A.L.L.A.P Day 5 with Phoebs!

Hey Everyone!

We're now onto Day FIVE of our blog collab J.O.A.L.L.A.P (Our initials, get it?!) and today it's Phoebs!

Hello Beauties!

So as part of the Joallap Collab week, I am posting today! Whoop! If you do not know about the Joallap Collab, I will link the 1st post where I explained it at the bottom. 

A big part of who I am is music. To my friends, I have a very weird music taste. They all just like music off the charts, and anything else was deemed uncool. I used to just like chart music, and some of it I do like, but I developed my own 'unique' taste when I was about 9 and my dad bought me the ellie goulding bright lights album for my ipod . I used to just listen to Starry Eyed but then I started to prefer her other songs on the album. Right now I am listening to Guns And Horses from that album haha.

So whatever my dad downloaded, I would find a song I liked and listen to it all day. For example my dad got the take that album and I listened to SOS for EVER. Then he liked florence and the machine, so did I. I carried on until I got my own itunes account.

So heard Skater Boi on the radio and I searched it on youtube to listen to then after I heard the song I clicked on all the other songs by Avril Lavigne and downloaded the ones I liked best. Same with Lily Allen . I do like some current songs, and I am into rap, but I had heard Drinking From The Bottle before it was on the charts. So I was quite proud when I was with my friends in the car and it came on after it was just released and I knew all the words. :) 

 My music taste definitely shows my personality. It shows I am not afraid to be different ( listening to songs not on the charts, I can be really upbeat ( rap) I can show my true feelings easily (Lily Allen) and I have a deeper side ( Avril Lavigne. Listen to My Happy Ending, its deep k .) Obviously it some ways it doesnt. And I do listen to other artists. 

So please, do not do something to fit in. Be yourself, and do your thing. Who cares if you listen to rock music, have a whacky fashion sense or only read classical books. IT. DOESNT. MATTER. People should like you for you on the inside, your personality, rather than what you do/dont do. If they do judge you like this, they are not worth knowing.

It's a HEATWAVE!

Hey Everyone!

Hope you're all keeping well in this simply beautiful weather. Here in Ireland the temperatures are soaring in the 20-30 degrees Celsius mark! Something which is really rare here to be honest. As I live in the 'Sunny South East' we have been enjoying the best of the weather.

I have been slightly creative and hyper this week, probably due to the brilliant weather, so this week I'll be telling you more about my kind of artistic side. Just so you all know, I never did Art subjects in school, I never studied them as exam subjects or anything. It's just that I have a lot of artistic family members for some reason! (We all think it came from my grandfather, I am said to have his hands because I'm double jointed)

So, I have this pen holder, I've had it since I was around six or seven. However I was looking at it during the week and thought it was a little outdated for a nearly seventeen year old student! I have a love for Doctor Who (Yes, I am a Whovian!) so I decided, due to it's shape, to design it like the Tardis!

I measured the holder and measured everything out equally, using the Tardis above my desk as a guide (It's the 11th Doctors Tardis, Matt Smith's one) I sat at my desk, listening to Taylor Swift's album, Red and just simply drew the 4 sides of the Tardis, I can't quite explain it, but I completely immersed myself in the task, I listened to the entire album during the process.

I must say I'm quite proud of how well it turned out seeing as I'm don't credit myself as being artistic or mathematical (for the measurements and accuracy of the squares) as I feel I don't possess those traits. Perhaps I proved myself wrong!

In other news, I ordered 4 John Green books, (I already have TFIOS) and they arrived on Friday. I started with ''Looking for Alaska'' I won't spoil the book, but, I cried, and for a long time! There's something so beautiful, poetic and heartbreaking about John Green's books, I can't quite put my finger on it. However it's SOMETHING and really gave me alot to think about.

I'm reading An Abundance of Katherine's next I think, hopefully it won't be as sad as Looking for Alaska and TFIOS. I haven't started it yet as this afternoon I was at a local Patron. For those of you who are lucky enough to have never attended a Patron (pronounced Pattern) it's basically where you go to a graveyard at a specific date and time and a mass for the deceased is held. You wear good clothes, put flowers on the grave of your loved one (today it was my grandfather on my dad's side, who passed away a year before I was born) so I attended with my parents and brother. I wore a blue and white dress (I took some selfies on my phone for you all as I felt bad about taking non at the wedding last week) so I attended the Patron and it was fine.

Maybe I shouldn't upload this but okay, here's the dress, if anyone's wondering where it's from, it's from Penneys and I'm not sure how much it cost, I recycled the tag before I could check! But it wouldn't have been much as it's from Penneys (Primark for those in the UK)

The John Green books arrived!

As a joke with my brother and also Grace (DaintySprinkles) I made a John Green book SHRINE. I even have a chocolate muffin candle there too! (Below it is some things I got in London)

Ps. Just thought I'd say R.I.P. Cory Monteith, who played Finn in Glee. Back when I was 12-15 I used to watch Glee religiously and needless to say, he was my favourite character. Glee was also one of the first fandoms I was in and will always remain in my heart. I even had posters of Cory all over my bedroom walls. I was so upset to hear the news of his death this morning. My thoughts are with his family, friends, the Glee cast and in particular Lea Michele. Stay Strong guys x
